The Morris Animal Foundation (MAF) will be funding about 120 animal health studies in 2008, 17 of the studies are for new and continuing studies for cats – totaling more than $600,000.

MAF was established in 1948 and has its headquarters in Denver Colorado. It is dedicated to funding research projects that aim at protecting, treating and curing animals, both companion and wildlife.
Some of the cat studies include crucial health and welfare issues such as asthma, cancer, heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, hyperthyroidism, infectious disease, overpopulation, pain management and kidney disease.

· Diabetes
· Skin Problems
· Kidney Failure
· Thyroid Disease

With the average animal aging five to seven times faster than humans, pets over seven should begin having annual wellness exams in order to detect, treat and prevent health issues before they become serious or life threatening
